Snow surfing, snurfing, skiboarding… but the name that has stuck is snowboarding. Commonly accepted as the first production snowboard, the ‘Snurfer’ was designed by Sherman Poppen in 1965.
Skull Skates is tied closely to snowboarding because of Vancouver’s geographical location which afforded early 80s exploration in the three North Shore Mountains that loom over the city.
Our loosely themed collection is arranged chronologically. Based on our limited knowledge, the arrangement is an attempt to show the evolution of styles of riding thru the development of equipment design.
We are not experts in snowboard collecting, but as riders and producers of snowboards we wanted to share a slice of snowboarding history, background, and influences. We also wanted to share our own Skull Skates and Crystal Ocean contributions in design and development.
