Music has been an important part of the skateboarding experience starting in the 60s with surf guitars and side walk surfing. For Skull Skates the connection to the sounds that drive the motion was made in the 80s with band boards for the likes of Gang Green, Wasted Youth, the Vandals, Social Distortion and the Red Hot Chili Peppers and continues into the present with boards for The China Creeps, SNFU, Cokehead Hipsters, DOA, Bloodied But Unbowed, Sorcerers and Brahman.
Skull Skates Recordings was launched as a means to release music into the universe through classic vinyl pressings and has initially seen the production of a Sorcerers LP and recently dropped Bonitos Yellow vinyl single. While some relationships have resulted in the collaborative release of records and skateboard decks others have been friendships based on the love of music and skateboarding. Below are some links which feature some connection between the makers of music and the makers of Skull Skates.
