Interesting day today at PD's Hot Shop in Vancouver. Within hours - three different boards that reflect very different ideas of what skateboarding means to different people.
Depth Leviathan Dweller of the Barrier Kult was in the store early to grip and install Skull Skates Stout rails on the Horse deck. Hardcore stencils, Vicious early 80s style grip tape - a dedication to the world of early 80s blackened-ditch-skate punk-Jaks-Dead Men legend.
Great contemporary Skull Skates premium popsicle shape with Bullet Trucks and Element wheels. The customer wanted a board to start with, maybe hang out in some small bowls, learn a few tricks in an empty parking lot - perfect 8.5" wide shape for everything.
Decked out with NOS Mini-Bones rails, NOS Jaw Bone, Tracker Ultralite SixTracks, NOS 1/2" risers, reissue Rat Bones, Skull Skates skid plate, etc. Second exact one of it's kind built at the Hot Shop recently as it really captures the imagination of people who were skate kids in the mid 80s. You can imagine a kid getting this board for their birthday back in the day and their mind virtually exploding. That being said, it comes from a pretty different attitude and place as described above for the Skull Skates Horse.
