In the late 1970s Vancouver was a small town on the edge of nowhere. No one in Canada cared about the artists who were seeding what would be known as early Vancouver punk.
While the film Bloodied But Unbowed is a story about a group of penniless kids who forged a music scene and then simultaneously destroyed it, of historical interest is the fact that SanFrancisco was the sister city to Vancouver during this time. Vancouver punk broke in SanFrancisco in 1978. Set against the soundtrack of the original Vancouver punks from bands like DOA and The Subhumans, with appearances from Jello Biafra, Henry Rollins, Duff McKagan, Penelope Houston, & others.

Bloodied But Unbowed reveals lots of archival music performances by DOA, Subhumans, Young Canadians, Pointed Sticks, Modernettes, and more. Stories north of the border and the ties with the SanFrancisco scene. Cast includes Henry Rollins, Duff McKagan, Keith Morris, Jello Biafra, Penelope Houston, Joe Shithead, Bob Rock, Randy Rampage Gerry Useless, Art Bergmann, Zippy Pinhead, Brad Kent and more.

Director Susanne Tabata created the Canadian surf doc 49Degrees. After a surfer walked the program into FUELTV Los Angeles, the station picked up the doc and invited Tabata to enter a filmmaking contest - the Fuel Experiment – running against 250+ filmmakers to be the only female and one of ten directors chosen to make a film. The resulting film SkateGirl (FoxFUEL) is the history of women’s professional skateboarding, chronicling parallel journeys of women from the 1970s to now. Susanne Tabata was also a producer and post supervisor of Jason Priestley’s Barenaked in America, - a 35mm feature doc of the first large arena US Tour of the Barenaked Ladies.
